Cassie Vogel is a poet whose work resides within a larger register of texts, images, and signs from which
themes of disarticulation and social abjection often emerge. By undergoing contact with the anonymous
intimacies which underwrite unfulfilled desire, her writing tries to trace the contours of spiritual and social
displacement that remain after devastating loss.
Her practice has taken the form of text, drawing, and painting. At present, she is concerned with using
psychoanalytic film theory in order to investigate what might be called ‘unspeakable voices ‘— the word that
infuses silence with speech. These possibilities may take shape as mourning, stilted communication between
individuals, or the ways that art fuses itself to suggested worlds.
Her manuscript in-progress entails a coming into a consciousness about faith in the world and the conditions
in which love germinates. Similar to the poetic film, the ‘text’ refracts its images through the camera’s eye,
constructing a psychic interior within which fragments and brush strokes reach into other intangible spaces
to re-suggest the complexity of language visually, semiotically, and as a means of seeking connection.
She received my M.F.A. in Literary Arts from Brown University in 2023 and a B.A. in English Literature from
UC Berkeley in 2020. She has made several artists’ books of her poems and drawings. At Brown, where she
taught poetry, she was the recipient of the Keith and Rosmarie Waldrop Prize for Innovative Writing. She
currently work for a psychoanalytic training institute in New York City.

Cassie Vogel es una poeta cuya obra se inscribe en un registro más amplio de textos, imágenes y signos, de los

cuales a menudo emergen temas de desarticulación y abyección social. Al entrar en contacto con las intimi-
dades anónimas que subyacen al deseo insatisfecho, su escritura intenta trazar los contornos del desplaza-
miento espiritual y social que persiste tras una pérdida devastadora.

Su práctica se ha materializado en texto, dibujo y pintura. Actualmente, se interesa utilizar la teoría psicoana-
lítica del cine para investigar lo que podríamos llamar «voces indescriptibles», la palabra que infunde habla

al silencio. Estas posibilidades pueden manifestarse como duelo, comunicación forzada entre individuos o las
formas en que el arte se fusiona con mundos sugeridos.
Su manuscrito en proceso implica una toma de conciencia sobre la fe en el mundo y las condiciones en las
que germina el amor. Al igual que en el cine poético, el texto refracta sus imágenes a través del ojo de la
cámara, construyendo un interior psíquico donde fragmentos y pinceladas se adentran en otros espacios
intangibles para reescribir la complejidad del lenguaje visual y semióticamente, y como medio para buscar
conexión.
Obtuvo su maestría en Bellas Artes en Artes Literarias en la Universidad de Brown en 2023 y su licenciatura
en Literatura Inglesa en la Universidad de California en Berkeley en 2020. Ha creado varios libros de artista
con sus poemas y dibujos. En Brown, donde impartió clases de poesía, recibió el Premio Keith y Rosmarie
Waldrop a la Escritura Innovadora. Actualmente trabaja en un instituto de formación psicoanalítica en la
ciudad de Nueva York.
